Why is Christianity so misunderstood? I’m not entirely sure I have an answer to this question; I can however express my view or opinion of an ordinary average guy living in the U.S. who believes in Christ.
As I have stated before I am not an expert on Christianity but, I do believe Christ is my Savior, I read the Holy Bible, and I attempt to live righteously of God’s will. That being said, I do not present myself as something I’m not which is where I believe the misconception of Christianity begins.
I can see that it is easy for those looking from the outside in questioning Christianity for example, huge Churches built with millions of dollars, parking lots filled with the finest autos, members dressed in the latest fashion, and last but not least only associating within their congregation. The perception of many non-believers is Christians are elitist, hypocritical, and judgmental.
I don’t mean to step on toes here but as Christians, appearance is earthly and as in (1 Peter 3:3-5) it is not what you adorn yourself with but, the hidden person of the heart is what in God sight is precious. I group together the four words “appearance, elitism, hypocrisy, and judgement” as I think that they are the common thread of misunderstanding Christianity. As Christians one must make a daily effort not to fall into such behaviors, not doing so only confirms the opinions of those looking from the outside in.
Those who truly belong to Christ will exhibit the fruit of the Spirit.
